Ingredients 750ml (1 liter) vodka 6–8 cloves of garlic

1. Peel the garlic cloves.

2. Place the peeled cloves into the mason jar.

3. Fill the jar with vodka.

4. Screw on the lid. Shake vigorously for a bit.

5. Place the jar in a cool, dark place to infuse. Garlic is a strong flavor, so a few days will be sufficient (3-4 days).

6. Strain the vodka through a strainer, coffee filter or muslin cloth. Discard the cloves. Return the infused vodka to a suitable serving bottle.

7. Serve. This is an unusual flavor but luckily for the ghouls and ghostettes at Halloween time, it goes superbly well with tomato juice for a garlicky Bloody Mary .
- Garlic vodka is an acquired taste. Either you love garlic, or you don't!
- Some variations on this infusion include other herbs and spices, such as a spicy jalapeño pepper or a sprig of basil or mint. These can balance the garlicky flavor to make it taste even more interesting. You might find it a good idea to experiment by dividing the infusing vodka into two jars and testing one flavored with just garlic cloves and one flavored with garlic cloves and a fresh herb or spice.
- Daily tasting can help you to work out at what point the infusion is adequate for your liking.
- Some say garlic vodka has healing properties, such as chasing away acne or bacteria, as well as those vampires. Try not to place too much stock on these theories though––this is alcohol after all and not a medicine.
